Tips for Flowing Creativity

You may recall from the introduction that art is like a spell cast by the artist, and anyone who partakes of it falls under its influence. Take a moment to figure out how you want your audience to feel. Imagine a beginning for your art that will cast the right spell to evoke that emotion within whoever interacts with it. If you wish, you can do an extra brainstorm with the opening and the emotion or theme to get ideas about it.

For an elemental boost, use water charged with moonlight or sunlight to cleanse your creative workplace and recharge items. You can use them in your art too, such as when you rinse paintbrushes or sponge water onto clay.

Write down your dreams upon waking for insights about creative blocks. If you encounter a blocked feeling in your dreams and you didn’t work through it, work through it in your life or your art.

Find your way into your art by playing with it. Starting a session badly is better than not starting at all. Sometimes what we think is bad turns into a great session. I once lived across the street from a brilliant pianist who started every session with random poundings on the keys. After several minutes of playing, those terrible noises found a rhythm and turned into the most beautiful songs.

Create art you love. You’ll get much more enjoyment out of it, and you can depend on that feeling.
